Itinerary

Day 01 – Arrival in Kathmandu, hotel transfer and trip briefing

From Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Thamel. In the afternoon, you will have a short briefing about the trip and your Climbing  Permits will be provided. You will have some free time in the evening to explore Thamel and prepare for the trip the following day.

Day 02 – Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2800m) and trek to Phakding (2660m)
After an early morning flight to Lukla, we trek down to Chheplung, Chaurikharka. From here, the trail contours along the banks of Dudhkoshi (Milk River) valley before ascending to Ghats (2530m). The trail then ascends towards Phakding (2660m) where we stay overnight.

Day 03 –Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazar (3535m)

The trail crosses the Milk River through several suspension bridges before leading to Banker village (2700m) and Chumoa. Further along the trail leads to Monju where we take a quick break for registration, before descending to Dudh Koshi and Joraselle, the last village before Namche Bazar. A steady two to three hours of climb will lead us to the famous Sherpa settlement and trading capital.

Day 04 –Acclimatization day in Namche Bazar

Namche Bazar is the Sherpa capital of the Solu Khumbu region which houses the Sagarmatha National Park visitor center. There are plenty of things to do around Namche Bazar. We will spend a day here acclimatizing by visiting Syangboche, Everest View hotel, Khumjung and Khunde village.

Day 05 –Trek from Namche Bazar to Tengboche (3880m)

After an early morning breakfast in Namche Bazar, we head straight to the trail that slightly goes uphill then descends to Dudh Koshi River (3250m). There are several small lodges in this area and a series of picturesque water-driven prayer wheels. Most trekkers take their lunch in this place before ascending to Tengboche (3880m). From Tengboche, you get a stunning view of Mt. Ama Dablam. During the peak trekking season of October or November during the full moon, a colorful festival called Mani Rimdu is held in the Tengboche monastery courtyard where masked dancing and performances from the Tibetan Opera take place.

Day 06 – Trek from Tengboche to Pheriche (4240m)
From Tengboche, the trail slightly drops down to Debouche, crosses the Imja Khola and climbs through a  rhododendron forest past superb mani stones carved with the Tibetan Buddhist mantra “Om mani padme hum” to Pangboche(3860m). The monastery here is oldest in the Khumbu Region, and it is considered the best place in the area to stop for lunch. The trails climb past Somare village and Orsho to Pheriche (4240m). Pheriche village has a dozen of lodges for overnight stay, and it also possible to secure medical assistance here courtesy of the Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) aid post.

Day 7 Trek to CHHUKUNG (4730m)

On this day we follow an epic trail along the Imja Khola to Chhukung, a small summer settlement nestling among ridges of moraine. Mountains and glaciers surround Chhukung from all sides. It is here where we do final preparation for the challenge. Overnight at guest house in Chhukung

Day 8 Climb to ISLAND PEAK BASE CAMP (4970m) 3-4 hours

The path from Chhukung leads fairly steep way climbing south then turning east to the main line of the valley. It then winds along or below the southern flank of the moraine from the Lhotse Glacier. Continue short pleasant walking along a streamside leads to what we call Big-rock. The route to the Amphu Lapcha lies to the southeast. A crisis cross route through the Imja and Lhotse glacier moraines leads to a wide valley flanking the SW side of Island peak. Stay over night in Island Peak Base Camp. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 9 Climb to ISLAND PEAK HIGH CAMP (5600m) 2-3 hours

The path leads up beyond base camp for several hundred meters before striking off left up the steep hillside. Initially sandy, the path soon turns to grass before becoming boulder strewn. As we climb the hill, we will see that the slope narrows and the path enter a steep rock channel. Stay overnight in Island Peak High Camp. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 10 Climb to SUMMIT BASE CAMP (6189m) and  Back to CHHUKUNG 8-10 hours

We start the climb to rocky gully early in the morning which is not much difficult but there are several short rock steps to climb before we emerge on the right side of the gully. The route then follows a ridgeline which leads to an exhilarating and exposed traverse onto the snout of the summit glacier. We need to rope up for the glacier as it contains several crevasses but it leads without difficulty, to a 100m (330ft) snow and ice slope (40-45°) on which the guides will fix a rope. From the top of this slope, 3 rope lengths along a sharp summit ridge lead to the top. After enjoying the summit views we descend all the way to Chhukung for the night stay. Overnight at guest house.
